As one of Europe’s leading logistics providers with almost 400 locations worldwide, DACHSER not only focuses on “Intelligent Logistics”, but also on “Efficient Compliance”. DACHSER has opted for DHC VISION software as technological basis for its internal control system (ICS).
As a globally operating logistics provider, DACHSER is subject to strict laws and comprehensive regulations. Regulations are aimed at averting risks and the associated damage to companies; they are expected to guarantee the effectiveness, economic efficiency and correctness of entrepreneurial action and operational activities. Compliance management, risk management, information security and data protection, as well as the associated control and monitoring systems, i.e. an Internal Control System (ICS), are therefore of great importance.
Internal control system in accounting
As part of the audit of the annual financial statements, auditors examine the internal control system for appropriateness and effectiveness. DACHSER is subject to the auditing standards of the German Institute of Public Auditors (IDW) and the requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX), in addition to many country-specific standards. All this adds to the complexity and significance of compliance management.
Companies must provide evidence of a control system with effective preventive, process-dependent measures and process-independent, retrospective controls. Auditors expect transparent documentation of measures and controls, a fact that will be of increasing importance in the future, for example within the IDW framework.
Up to now, many different analog and digital procedures were in place at DACHSER to document and monitor processes, risks, controls and control evidence. The newly implemented, integrated system, based on DHC VISION, now ensures compliance with legal documentation requirements; at the same time, it acts as central control instrument for the global ICS and as a tool to foster awareness of controls within the company.
DHC VISION increases process security and compliance
The newly implemented solution maps the entire internal control process – from process documentation to the recording and assessment of risks, the definition and implementation of associated controls and the testing of controls. With the introduction of DHC VISION, DACHSER is now able to document risks and controls simply and transparently and to manage them on an operational level throughout the group.
The decision in favor of DHC VISION IKS was preceded by a comprehensive selection process. Decisive factors for DHC VISION were the holistic approach and the fully integrated application spectrum. The sustainability of the solution, its focus on “best practice” processes, as well as the software’s appealing design convinced DACHSER in the end.
Company-wide roll out
The solution rollout in Germany is followed by the global rollout. The digitalization of documentation and processes with DHC VISION also continues horizontally. Emphasis is put on the meaningful integration of enterprise-wide business processes; the company investigates what additional topics to integrate with ICS procedures.
“With a turnover of around 280 billion Euros, the German logistics industry is a dynamic growth market. As RegTech solution provider, we support our customers in coping with the ever new and changing legal framework conditions with maximum reliability at a reasonable cost,” says Dr. Wolfgang Kraemer, Managing Director of DHC Business Solutions. “Digital ICS processes are an ideal application area for more process efficiency in compliance management. There are virtually no limits to further process automation, especially with block chain and AI technologies,” Kraemer adds. “We are delighted to investigate this route together with DACHSER.”
